The story of how this happened is actually a little odd. He was complaining yesterday morning that his tooth hurt, and I noticed it was changing to a dark color. (This stuff always has to happen on the weekend.. not Mon-Fri when medical offices are open!) I took him down the street to see our friend, Emily, who is a dental hygienist. She predicted that the tooth was dead and that he would need to be seen asap to get it pulled. An absess actually formed over night and his gum was sagging this morning. And just like that, Nico saw the dentist this afternoon and had it yanked out! The funny thing is that his adult tooth is no where ready to come in, so this guy will likely be toothless there for 2-3 years!
Our prediction is that this all started two years ago when he firmly bumped his tooth on the coffee table, enough to actually make it loose. It apparently can take a few years for the tooth to actually lose blood supply.
We made it a special night and took him to the mall to get ice cream and pick out a lego set. Spoiled.
He is beyond proud and will likely talk about his missing tooth every day.
