Happy Halloween!

We went out to Grapevine with our little monkey to surprise Dave and Cindy for Halloween. It was a very funny surprise actually. We had Nico standing up at the door with a little pumpkin pail, and David and I ran and hid around the corner. (Shockingly, Nico actually stood at the door. I would have lost that bet.) When Dave opened the door, he was like, "Aww, aren't you cute! Here ya go!" and put some candy in Nico's pail. Then he kinda looked around. After a few more seconds, David came around from the corner and Dave immediately looked down at Nico in disbelief. Dave said he thought that this kid seemed too young to be by himself and wondered where in the heck the parents were. Ha ha! (I don't blame him though, the monkey part hides his face pretty well. I won't give him too much grief for this one.)

Nico tugged Sadie's collar around, repeatedly saying "doggie."

He wasn't going to let go of that candy!

And he kept trying to eat it with the wrappers on!

Nico ate a bunch of candy and stayed up wayyy past his bedtime. I'd say it was a great Halloween for him!

Arizona getaway

David and I have become quite the traveling, party animals this year, as we went on another Nico-less weekend getaway, making our 3rd airplane trip for 2012. We flew out to Phoenix primarily for Danielle's (one of my best friends from high school) wedding, and made a little 3 night trip out of it. It was a good time!

We arrived Thursday and went into downtown Scottsdale that night to meet David's cousin, Abby, for a few drinks. The Yardhouse has a huuuuge selection of beer. And much to anyone's surprise, including my own, I did NOT get Coors Light. Yep, I know you are impressed.

After a few hours down there, we headed back towards our hotel, and got some text messages to come meet up with the bridal party for a quick drink at a fancy champagne bar. We closed out night out there and it was really nice to see Danielle and meet some of her college friends prior to her wedding.

Saturday morning was the day of the wedding, which was at 4, so we didn't want to get too crazy the first half of the day. We ate breakfast at Overeasy, which is a cute little diner featured on David's show Diners, Drive-ins, and Dives. I'm tellin ya, he knows where to get the best food anywhere we go. Then we drove through some neighborhoods and up through a park in the mountains to check out the area. We started playing the "guess how much this house costs" game by finding houses with for sale signs and then googling the price. It was a fun, completely dorky game that actually lasted for a big chunk of the morning. The houses there are so funny looking to me.

Soon it was wedding time! They had a beautiful outdoor ceremony at a fancy hotel, followed by drinks on an outdoor patio, just outside of the reception area. Here is me and my hot date...

Saturday morning can be summed up by one word. Hungover. We walked next door to Tilted Kilt to watch football and eat some greasy food. I decided to workout my liver further with a few mimosas, which turned into a few beers after that. Frank was on vacation and going to make the most of it. David made the older and wiser decision to refrain. Early afternoon we met the bridal party over at the hotel for some poolside time, and later that night, David and I actually ended back up at the Tilited Kilt to watch the big OU/Notre Dame game. It was a very entertaining, loud atmosphere to say the least, as it was a restaurant divided and we were sitting smack dab in the middle of it all.

Meanwhile, my sweet mom was at our home all weekend watching Nico. Out of all the fun this weekend, nothing beat coming home to this guy.

Another big boy milestone: car seat

Alright, we no longer have to live in fear of CPS tracking us down and throwing us in a bad parenting jail cell. Drumroll please............ we finally got Nico a size-appropriate car seat! We had been procrastinating on this, not just because we are procrastinators, but because he still technically fit into his newborn carseat. (Nevermind the fact that the carseat had giant labels for height and weight maximum limits, and he had surpassed the height requirement by his 12 month checkup.)

He looks so much older sitting in this seat. It's like he's a little person and not a baby anymore. Been having that realization a lot lately.

And here's our goofball enjoying some m&ms after dinner. He was extra smiley and full of laughs tonight.

Happy 28th to me!

Last night, we were just sitting here, hanging out at the house, and DING DONG. My mom was at the door?! Turns out that David had arranged for her to babysit Nico while he took me out for a fun afternoon evening to celebrate my 28 years of existence. We went and got pedicures, ate dinner at Brio, and finished the night at Dodie's to watch an inning or two of the baseball game. It was such a nice surprise. Nico and him bought me a newer iPhone for my bday gift, along with a big pumpkin pail full of chocolate candy (which is actually almost gone as we speak. No. self. control.)

On my actual birthday, Tuesday, I had the privilege of spending some quality time with this guy...

He was cracking me up today. He was very much into ice chips. I would break up a piece of ice into his little bowl, and after he devoured it (and gave some to the dogs), he would proudly hold up his bowl, smile, and go, "mo mo mo mo mo." If I wasn't fast enough, he would go over to the refrigerator and continue his chant. Funny guy.

Pumpkin patch time

Because when you have a child, you gotta go to a pumpkin patch in the fall and take a large amount of pictures.

I couldn't get him to smile much today for these pics, but he did seem to have fun with the animals and in the bounce house! Points again for us for doing something kid-friendly.. and on a Friday afternoon too!

Nope, this is not a picture of Nico...

We have been referring to Nico as "Jeffy Jr." Definitely a lot of resemblence!

A day in the life...

Nico is 13-14 months old, and it is definitely a fun age that I can not imagine forgetting!

Our morning starts off around 7:30 or 8:00 with a cute little babbling noise of mama, dada, or doggie. He is happy as ever and ready to function at 100%. He sometimes even thinks he's funny and runs to the other side of the crib as we are half asleep, leaning forward to pick him up. We have a class clown on our hands. David and him have this thing where he lets Nico pull the ceiling fan chord to let the light on, so Nico tends to immediately look up and reach at the fan whenever we pick him up. It seems to really make him proud to do that.

So we make him his bottle first thing. Halleluya, he is drinking "real" milk now! (well, soy milk). He is still quite the milk snob, however, and will only drink it warm. I actually have tried periodically to give him cold mild. He will take a sip, and then give me a WTF look with his mouth open, as I can still see a milk puddle underneath his tongue. He then hands me back the bottle or throws it on the ground. I didn't know kids already had an attitude at this age?!

Then it's breakfast time. Stay-at-home dad of the decade makes Nico breakfast omelettes, hashbrowns, sausage, pancakes... you name it.

Nico spends his morning as busy as ever just playing nonstop. He has a pile of about 50 toys in the living room that he will work his way through. He is really good at actually entertaining himself. His latest developments consist of driving little toy trucks around while saying a mumbled version of the word "vroom," playing with his size cars (pushing them around, letting us push him around in laps around the house, and also standing on top of them), flipping through the pages of books and bringing them to us to read, throwing balls (he has a nice little arm, wahoo), and carrying around his broomstick. Yep, that about sums it up.

When he's not playing with his toys like a good little boy, he's antagonizing the dogs, attempting to pull the stair gate down to climb up the stairs, climbing on the furniture (or all over us if we lay on the ground- one of my fav things to do with him), going in and out of the doggy door, or trying to get into something he shouldn't. The word "no" is used quite frequently in this household. He responds to that maybe 10% of the time.

He is constantly babbling. So far his vocabulary consists of: mama/mommy, dada, doggie, Mi Mi (for our dog Miley), woof, ut-oh, bye bye, hi, and mumbled versions of "brown bear" and "vroom." He is just getting to the point where it's believable that he knows what those words mean. Last week, David claimed that Nico was looking out of the window when my car pulled up, and he kept saying mommy repeatedly. He also was apparently saying hi to every single person in Walmart the last time he went, as well. When one lady continued to ignore him, he didn't give in. He just kept at it. Pretty entertaining.

So this brings us to his morning naptime, which is a few hours. Lately, this has been his best nap. He gets another bottle when he wakes, and then has lunch. He eats about anything, literally. I can't think of anything he has turned down. You know he's done when he starts throwing his food on the floor.

The afternoon/evening is basically a repeat of the morning with all of the playing. He's a little busy body. He seems happiest when he is outside or around other kids. David stays home with him 4 days/wk and they have a little routine of things they do together. They go to the mall ("Mall Mondays"), play outside, and go on walks to Walmart often. He takes showers with David too. Can't even remember the last bath he had. He still goes to Misty's, but it is just 1 day a week now. It's a good chance for him to be around a few other kids his age.

Nighttime comes, and after he devours his dinner, he tries his best to fight off sleep. He goes and goes at 100%, and then it is so obvious when he's done. David and I can often just look at eachother immediately when that moment comes. And then he sleeps peacefully for 11-12 hours straight. We are so lucky.

I can best describe Nico the same way as I have been.. a very happy boy! He is usually smiling and laughing (but he can be such a little shit too!) He's started having temper tantrums. He literally SCREAMS when you take something away from him, tell him no, or open a door and shut it without letting him out. When he really gets going, he thrusts his head backwards and arches his back. Good times.

Couldn't love him anymore.

And here is an excessive amount of pics that I love from the past month or so...
