Nico couldn't have been more excited that it was his LAST day of school today! Despite merely going two half days per week, he was still ready for summer! Here's the last day vs. first day comparison.
Nico had a great school year with plenty of positive feedback from his teachers. He is an extremely likeable guy and his classmates love him. As if we had any doubt. I have seen this on days when I drop him off and the entire class (which the teacher has deemed "his people") comes to the door with excitement to see him. It's comical. He has a strong personality and apparently has been a class leader. Learning wise, he seems to be right on track, but he does seem to choose when he wants to sit down and learn something. There is a packet where he had to identify numbers, shapes, letters, colors, etc on at the beginning of the year compared to the end, and the feedback was borderline between concerning vs. funny on this. He blew through the first handful of pages and answered everything correctly, but then, he just stopped and flat out refused to do any more!! I was a little concerned by the fact that he didn't follow his teacher's directions, since wasn't even a thought when I was in school! But then, I found out that they pulled the kids during playground time to have them sit still and go through this. Who can blame him?! I can tell he is learning plenty, because it shows up when we are reading books at night. That's when you can sneak up on him and ask him questions about letters and halfway educational things, and he'll gladly cooperate.
With so many big things happening this year, especially Ryan's wedding and the baby's arrival, we often talk to him about the months of the year and events/holidays that happen in each. He has gotten a good feel for the order of things, and closely associates the start of summer with Natalie's arrival. He asked this morning, "Now that I'm done with school, does that mean that my baby sister is coming tonight?!" He's so literal sometimes. (Where does he get that from?! Ha!)
He had his preschool program last Thursday, and he was sooo cute! He sang and gestured right on cue to their songs and was full of enthusiasm too! He had been asking me all week if I was excited for his program. You can tell that he was so proud.
It was a short and sweet program, and there was lemonade and cookies afterward. We then went out to eat with Jake and his family to celebrate the end of another school year.
With his teacher, Ms Angela.
