Kindergarten

I'm not going to lie, there were definitely tears shed when Nico started Kindergarten earlier this month! I may have even held back a couple tears when we took him to orientation too. Look at this handsome guy. I just want to squeeze him.

He is in such a transitional phase between still being my little boy and beginning to be too cool! One minute, he is talking back and I'm thinking, "I didn't think I would get this kind of attitude until he was closer to the teenage years..." but the next minute, he cuddles up with me, asks me to have a sleepover or play with him, and says something sweet. We have plenty of Jekyll and Hyde days, for sure.

The official first day of school pic. He doesn't look like a little boy anymore?! He was set on having these Converse tennis shoes for school.

If he had any nerves, they were minimized when he ran into his buddy Logan, who walked him to his class with us. He walked right in and didn't show much emotion. I held it together until we were out of the building before shedding a couple minutes worth of tears in true first time kindergarten mom fashion.

He was overly enthusiastic about riding the bus home on the first day, so we said, why not?! (David said he heard the pick up line that day would take an hour, so he was relieved to miss out on that). I was really nervous about him riding the bus so soon. He is still so little. What if he gets confused about where to go? What if he gets scared and feels so alone? Will the older kids be mean to the new ones? I tried to remember that he does know a lot of older neighborhood kids that are now bus veterans. One of his closest buddies, Derek, is in 1st grade now and rode the bus all last year, so that helped ease this mama's mind!

He was ALL smiles getting off. It was a great first week, and he admitted to really liking school!

It's also one of the sweetest things to see him wave to me 5x before stepping on the bus, and then immediately look for me out the window before sitting down. He does still care.

We went to TCBY to celebrate a great first day.

He didn't know anyone in his class initially, but after a few days, he was mentioning names and telling us all about what they do in PE and recess. He is a fan of the school lunches when they have burgers. And he really liked Art class. He apparently likes to draw pictures of him and Natalie, or of our family.

"Here is me and Natalie dancing on the table"....

To coincide with Nico's positive comments about his first week of school, his teacher provided us with a nice note too.

We really felt like we must be doing something right when he brought this home after his second week. (I wish he would behave and listen this well at home. We were wondering if this was a total mix up. Ha!)

He was begging me to come to lunch one day with him, so I surprised him. I was there waiting when his class walked out. How could you say no to this face? It meant so much to him to have me there, and I have a mental photograph of the look on his face when he first saw me.

So far, so good! Stay tuned!

Summer

When we weren't on vacation or watching Nico play baseball, here are some of the other captured moments in between.

High 5 for bowling and arcade games.

Natalie learned how to cook with her new play kitchen and is almost to my level.

Top Golf is in our rotation every few months.

Farmer's Market Sundays.

Daddy's hockey games.

Hanging out with neighborhood friends.

Water balloon fights.

You know you're a mom when you take pictures of your kids bathing together. Seriously, how cute are they?

Family walks and trips to the pool.

Graceland/Stubbs is in the regular kid-friendly rotation.

Instead of playing on the playgrounds on this day, though, here's our Nico throwing the ball to himself against the wall...

Plenty of board games and legos. Anything to keep him off the Ipad when we can!

She's slowly turning into a little girl, and no longer a baby! And she's mobile!

Southlake playoff baseball.

"Driveway parties" with the water, scooters/jeep, wiffle ball, hockey...

Family time.

Kristan crashed at our house a few weekends to pursue some yoga training in Austin! Always entertaining with her around!

Big brother in charge. They are so cute together.

"The jumps!"

A few date nights happened!

We've oddly gotten into mussels.

Roundrock Express baseball. He's the king of chasing down foul balls!

We had such a fun packed summer, and I know I'll look back on so many of these little memories for years to come! Now bring on kindergarten and the cooler fall weather!

Nico's Soccer Zone Birthday Party

Since Nico didn't have enough birthday celebrations this year, we figured we would have another one.

This birthday bash with friends was set for a couple weeks passed his actual birthday, as we wanted baseball and our Michigan trip to pass! Nico requested to have his party at Soccer Zone in South Austin this year, and the group was able to play various sports on our allotted turf field for a couple hours. A majority of his buds were from baseball, and there were also a few from his school and the neighborhood. It was a great turnout, and Nico felt special! Cheers to being 6!
